------------------------------------------------------------------------------ the blasted alarm clock woke her up earlier than she had wanted to that morning. Granted, the alarm had been set for 9:00 a.m., but to her, that was just a little too early for her liking. Then, there were some days where she didn't mind getting up that early, so she could go hiking and maybe take Hank and Roxy with her. So, the clock went off, and she then got up, gently pushing off Felix and Quinn from her sides, and they eyed her silently, though both the Himalayan and Egyptian Mau curled right back up where her feet had been, tails twitching as they watched her get up and pull on a pair of shorts, her hiking boots with socks on beneath them of course, then following, a tank-top. The creme-colored tank-top was slightly loose on her woman shape, but she didn't care, and she grabbed a water bottle, then an extra one for both Hank and Roxy, knowing they should be all right, but just in case and put them into her small backpack she used on hikes and days such as this. Stuffing a flowered v-neck blouse into another bag she'd put in the passenger seat, with a pair of khaki shorts and sandals to change into afterwards. Planning on going till at least 10:30 or 11:00, depending on when she got there and actually started hiking. She remembered suddenly, as she brushed through her hair - Josie's and her deal. Josie had asked out Chris, he'd said yes. Now - Jynx had to ask out Owen. Got - why did she do that? She should have known better than to try and get Josie to ask Chris, what was she thinking? Mentally kicking herself, the blonde then reluctantly got out her phone and texted Owen, knowing he'd most likely be up by now, "Hey Owen. =D Want to meet me at Coffee's for Closers around 11 for a drink and such?" There. She sent it, and planned on asking him there. Might as well as do it face-to-face instead of over the phone or texting.
jynx had told herself she wouldn't do this. But - she had already done it, and personally, she didn't know what Owen would do. If he'd say yes or no, or just ask her to let him think about it. Think about it? It was simple, they didn't have to be official if he didn't want it, but she certainly wouldn't mind. But, as far as she knew, though she wasn't sure - Owen didn't have any feelings for her. Granted she hung out with other guys, but they didn't have the same stomach-churning, heart-dropping feeling she got when she was around Owen, not the same, "I'm-really-worth-their-time" feeling she got around her best friend. Or one of her best, good friends. What if she lost his friendship? How would that affect everyone and everything around them? The band? Josie would probably kill him, she'd reassured Jynx last night that he'd say yes, who could say no to Jynx? Personally, she thought, a lot of guys, most of them went for the shorter girls, while she was at 5'9", taller than most, and thinner, not all the exact, extreme curves, but still. She had curves, dammit! Not getting herself riled up, the blonde then sighed heavily, and tied her long hair up into a messy ponytail, slung on her backpack with the two water bottles on the side, and spoke, "Roxy! Hank! C'mon you two!" she grinned as Roxy came sliding on the hard wood floor in the kitchen to her, and Hank came sauntering in behind her, his tongue lolling out already. Smiling to herself, she inquired, grabbing a cereal bar for herself, "Ready to go for a hike?" They both seemed to know what a hike was, and both immediately got excited. Laughing lightly and grabbing her car keys, she placed her clothes bag in the passenger seat with the water bottle, and laid down a towel in the back to help protect her seat from Roxy's and Hank's never-ending hair shedding. starting her car, Jynx eased it into her driveway, checking on Roxy and Hank who were obediently in the back. They reached the hiking spot, Jynx parked and slung on her backpack, then released Roxy and Hank, then spoke lightly, unhooking them from their respective leashers, "Hiking now, and come back when I whistle." they bounded off ahead of her, their collars dangling and clanking along their necks as she headed up the usual trail, boots steady and sure as she did so. Brushing back her hair, they headed through the woods, Roxy and Hank returning to her once in awhile to make sure she was all right, but also so she could be sure that they'd be all right too. As she checked her watch, realizing the time, she cursed to herself, "Roxy! Hank! Let's go!" she leapt over rocks, while Roxy and Hank, always enjoying a game of chase darted after her, of course beating her back to her silver Charger as she dumped water into a bowl for the dogs outside the car, since no one was around, might as well. She immediately, changed from her shorts and blouse to another pair of shorts, a sweater and cami underneath with some necklace and sandals. Getting the dogs into her back seat, she had fifteen minutes before she was hopefully going to see Owen at the coffee place. Hitting the gas, she dropped Roxy and Hank off, who went to lie down - most likely on her bed, and she left once more, tripping over what it looked like nothing. God - she hadted being so clumsy. arriving at the coffee place a little after 11, about 11:07 a.m. Jynx swore under her breath - a rare thing she tended to do, and then tripped over her purse as she got out, locked her doors and tucked her keys into her purse, looking around to see if Owen had driven or not. Realizing her hair was still up, as she entered, she tugged out the rubberband and ruffled her long layers lightly, before noticing he hadn't arrived yet. Excellent, she could plan how she wanted to do this. Josie had done it face-to-face, maybe Jynx and Owen could talk a bit, then she could hint at it, yes, that sounded excellent. And finally just asking him and getting it over with. Cringing slightly, she sighed heavily, wondering if he'd say yes or not. What would he say? She wanted to know so badly she was tempted to ask him the moment she saw him. But - no - that would leave too much time for awkwardness to settle between them, and she certainly didn't want that. Picking a booth, she sat down and crossed a long leg over the other before her blue eyes surveyed the scene for Owen, guessing he'd probably be there before she knew it. WELL, I'LL SWALLOW MY PRIDE IF YOU PROMISE TO STAY FOR THE YEARS, AND WATCH ME SPIN CIRCLES AS I DISSAPEAR. HEARTS, THEY DON'T LIE, THEY QUIVER
Being one of the only people in Kill the Lights who hadn’t been out all night yesterday, Owen woke up around seven. A bit early, even for him, but he wasn’t complaining, really. The only thing was that he had nothing to do all day. While that wouldn’t be a problem for some outgoing person who could, say, go down to the beach or something and talk to a bunch of people, he was more of the kind of person who would stay inside all day and be bored and until he actually had somewhere to be. Then again, he didn’t particularly want to stay inside all day. Maybe he’d go up to the cliffs later. Being bored to death there was always more enjoyable than being bored at the band’s house. Sighing quietly, he sat up, surveying his room. God, it was a mess. Nothing new to him, sadly enough. As one of the more irresponsible members of the band, it was normal, almost expected, that his room was the one with haphazardly thrown about random piles of junk. Then again – even though it seemed like mass disarray to basically everyone – it was actually rather organized to Owen. Kind of one of those organized chaos things that no one believed in, he supposed. And the truth was he never really was in his room, anyway, so why did it matter if it were that neat? It’s not like the room was dirty or gross or anything. Just...organized chaos. That was it. No other description really seemed quite as fitting.
After getting dressed, Owen went to the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of water. No one was up yet, and they probably wouldn’t be for another couple of hours. It was a bit scary at times how well the band knew each other. He could almost guess exactly what each person would be doing or had done last night, and he assumed most of them could do the same for him and everyone else. He shook his head. As much of an ass as he was to the band most of the time, he was almost afraid to think about what he would do without them. Let alone what would have happened if he’d never tried out for the position of their drummer. Maybe it wouldn’t have seemed too bad, but having known the band, and people associated with it, he couldn’t even imagine living without them. He wouldn’t even have ever met Jynx if it weren’t for the band. Wincing at the thought, he mentally reminded himself to thank Josie someday. That was a depressing thought: never knowing Jynx. She was probably his best friend, but it wasn’t too hard to tell that he thought of her a bit differently than a friend should if the friend wants to keep their friendship. She didn’t think of him like that, of course. Not wanting to dwell on that matter, he immediately went back to thinking about the band. He sometimes wondered if they would ever be allowed to get off of the island. Probably once they broke up, he mused. What would he do after that, though? He honestly didn’t know. Maybe he would move back to the United States, or even Canada, possibly. Just get away from the spotlight, settle down. He could get a job at some music store or something like that without a college degree, since it was unlikely he’d ever get into a good college and want to stay. High school had been bad enough; why would he want four more years of school when he could live without it?
Sighing, he briefly wondered what Jynx would do after the band. She could do anything, he guessed. Her photography was clearly good enough that she could rely on that, or anything else, really. She was smart, he knew, and could get into college. She’d be fine without the band, and it made him wonder at times why she stayed with them when she was obviously too good for that. For whatever reason Jynx stayed, he was selfishly glad. If she did actually go off back to the US for college, she would undoubtedly find some other guy, one who actually had the guts to ask her out. Damnit, he wouldn’t be able to live with himself if that happened. He resolved that if Jynx ever left, he would tell her how he felt. That would be stupid and selfish, he knew, but the truth of the matter was that he was too spineless to ever tell her under normal circumstances. He had proved that over and over. There had been way too many times that he had the opportunity: when they were on the cliffs, after a good concert, even that one day after the party when Jynx ended up driving him back to the band house. God. He could say it was because he cared about their friendship all he wanted, but, while that was true, the main reason he hadn’t asked her out was because he was too freaking scared. How was that for a confession?
Owen’s phone rang, signaling a text, and he jumped. Reaching into his pocket, he read the message, which was from Jynx. Talk about coincidences. He replied to the invitation to the coffee place quickly, a simple, Sure. See you there! He wasn’t sure why she wanted him to come, but he wouldn’t decline any time to spend with her. For the next hour and a half, he flipped through television channels, not really watching, just wasting time. By the time it was five minutes to eleven, he grabbed his car keys and climbed into his beat-up car, swearing under his breath. The car was nearly out of gas, and he wouldn’t be able to get it back to the house after meeting with Jynx. So he drove to a close gas station, filled the tank, and made it to Coffee’s for Closers fifteen minutes after eleven. Walking in quickly, he found Jynx in a booth and sat down across from her, giving a slight grin. “Hey. Sorry for being late.” A somewhat curious look fell over his face. It was, after all, a fairly unexpected invitation from her. He was tempted to ask, but he assumed she would tell him in her own time. That was, if it were anything more than a friendly get-together. It probably wasn’t, though. Simply two friends wanting to talk. Which was, of course, all they would probably ever be unless he miraculously got braver.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------ sitting in the shop, she knew this wouldn't be very romantic, or at least semi to ask someone out. How stupid could she get? Sighing heavily she ran a hand anxiously through her blonde blonde hair, before looking to her drink, then to the cup she had for Owen, she didn't know what he'd want, so she'd let him decide. Course - when he got here. As long as she didn't need to wait for an hour, she really wouldn't mind. Mentally making a note to get her camera out later, she knew it would rain somewhat today, and photography in the rain always hadded an extra mood. A soft smile crawled along her lips at this thought, pondering over what she could do. Maybe Roxy in a puddle, something she did and Jynx hated, or dew on the grass with the sunset in the background, that would probably go well. Getting out her Sidekick, she then typed in a text her small photo ideas, and saved it as a draft, one of the three she had in there. The other one was to her mom, the middle one - to Owen. Frowning, she noticed what it said, asking him to meet her at the themepark. But - neither one of them were very big fans - at least not too much, they could ride a few rides, then get sick afterwards.
as the coffee place got busier as time passed, with the lunch hour rush and such, she knew she'd need to go to a band practice the next time they had one. They were never bad - besides, she got to see Josie and most of all - Owen, play and do what they did best. Well - mostly. Her thoughts drifted to the band, Chris and Josie were now officially a thing, she wondered how long that would take till the press got a whiff of that. Oh God - or of her and Owen. That wouldn't be good. Shivering slightly, oh no, she wanted to be with Owen, it was the thought of people finding out she really didn't like. Would it affect the band? She surely hoped not. Nibbling her bottom lip, she felt her phone go off, a text from Owen, she smiled when he agreed to meet her here. Butterflies soared painfully in her stomach, and she stopped drinking for a moment, before remembering what he'd gotten last time, the time she took him to another coffee place to get something to drink. Getting up, she strolled to where people could fill their drinks, and got him a Pepsi in the cup, knowing he wasn't much of a coffee drinker. She got herself a Diet Mountain Dew, paid the people and headed back to the booth, and a few moments later - guess who showed up - Owen.
jynx allowed a bright, greeting grin to appear on her features as he approached her and spoke first. She shrugged, sliding him the Pepsi, giving him a light smile as she did so, "Don't worry about it, gave me time to get us drinks, and I was late to the park, wasn't I?" she arched an eyebrow lightly, playfully before adding, "And hi back." she grinned, unable to help herself as Owen sat down across from her. Instinctively drawing away - like she usually did, Jynx didn't this time. Instead, she kept her legs crossed, wanting to feel - confident in herself now. She then handed him a straw for the drink if he wanted it, sipping her drink lightly, enjoying the slight rush of caffeine she received, Jynx inquired, tucking some hair behind her ear, "Need to be somewhere? I won't hold you if you have to be." she smiled gently, always concerned if she was bothering him. Last thing she wanted to do was force him to go anywhere with her against his will - well, especially if he had something to do. mainly because she had an idea after they got drinks and maybe food if he wanted. Go out to the Cliffs, they could walk, the Cliffs - thankfully were pretty much in walking distance from almost everywhere on the island - if you knew the island. Blue eyes looked up to his own, and she felt color flooding her cheeks and neck. Looking down then, a poor attempt to hide it, she quered, "How have you been? You and Josie doing all right?" Ugh - she hated how that sounded. A flash of jealous flowed through her at the thought of Josie and Owen - though it'd never happen, it was still odd to think about that. She presumed Owen already knew about Josie and Chris, a thought tumbled into her head. Jynx wasn't much of a prankster, but sometimes she could do a good one, pull a little one on both Jos and Chris. It'd probably get her killed, but hey - life was too short not to enjoy it. Enjoy - she didn't know why it got her to thinking that, she suddenly remembered, though remained silent in case Owen wanted to say something, when she was sure she was good, she mused, handing him a colorful slip with lettering on it, "I'm having a pool party for the Fourth if you want to come." she paused, then added, without really meaning to, "I hope you do, though."[/blockquote] WORDCOUNT; 900 exact. xD

WELL, I'LL SWALLOW MY PRIDE IF YOU PROMISE TO STAY FOR THE YEARS, AND WATCH ME SPIN CIRCLES AS I DISSAPEAR. HEARTS, THEY DON'T LIE, THEY QUIVER
Nodding at Jynx’s reply – it was true, after all – he gave a grin while accepting the Pepsi with a light “Thanks.” He wanted to avoid the tension that seemed to be hanging around them lately – for some reason he wasn’t sure of – and he hoped that by lightening the mood he would be able to do so. Of course, he had never really been the best at that, and most of his attempts to ease tension with Jynx failed miserably, normally just adding to the anxiety. Maybe he was just imagining the whole thing; she’d never mentioned it, so it was a possibility. Then again, neither had he. Confronting it, though, he felt, wouldn’t help in the least. Damnit. The last thing he wanted to do was make things more awkward between them than they already were. Taking the straw she offered, he glanced back up when she spoke. “Of course not.” He wouldn’t make the same mistake as last time of ending their meeting for a band practice. What had he been thinking then? God, the band could wait. Josie would only yell at him for a few minutes, and the hell? She yelled at him all the time. Nothing unusual or intimidating about that. But, luckily, since there was no practice he had been informed of today, that wouldn’t be a problem.
He glanced up, apparently at the same moment she did, blue eyes immediately shooting down after locking with hers for an instant. The typical, insufferable flush made its way onto his face, causing him to remain in the awkward situation of staring at the table, obviously trying to hide the redness of his face. When Jynx spoke, however, he looked back to her with a curious look on his face. It was a somewhat odd question. Really, how did Josie get into this? Oh, right, he remembered with a slight wince. She still seemed fairly mad, though Owen couldn’t quite figure out why she wouldn’t just get over it by now. And Jynx was her best friend, after all, so it made sense that she would be a bit concerned about the two. Still, the phrasing had been…strange, at least. He shook his head, mentally brushing it off. “No worse, I guess. She’s still…pissed…of course.” Sighing, he shot a slight grin to her, wanting to forget about the growing tension. “How are you?” Waiting for her reply, he took a drink of the Pepsi. He was still rather interested in her reason for wanting to meet with him; it had been just yesterday that she ended up driving him back to the band’s house, hadn’t it? He flinched inwardly. That whole incident was still something he didn’t want to think about. Not the way back, of course, as that had pretty much been the high point the thing. Just his stupid episode at the Rave, getting drunk over something so obviously insignificant and in turn probably ruining Jynx’s evening. God, he was an idiot. A selfish idiot, he added mentally, remembering the cause for the whole thing.
Startled, he looked up as Jynx passed him what appeared to be an invitation. It apparently was, as she explained that it was for a pool party. About to answer, Owen stopped once she spoke again. He paused, eyes slightly wide, before he mentally kicked himself and forced a mumbled, “Um, sure. I-I’ll come.” She hadn’t meant that and he knew it, though he had to admit that he was now stomping down a bit of hope that had enlivened at her comment. She had simply been speaking as a friend, maybe encouraging him to come even though Josie was still mad. He winced, realizing how stupid and juvenile his response had been and added, still hesitantly, “It sounds cool.” He was hopeless, he decided. Maybe he was just incapable of sounding like more than a freaking love-struck, geeky teenaged kid. Silently cursing himself, he slid the invitation into his pocket. Well, at least he knew why she had wanted him to come, now. And, hey, a party with Jynx on the fourth of July would have to be pretty fun. Way better than sitting up on the cliffs alone, or on the beach outside of the band house, as he had been previously considering. Then again, almost any time he spent with Jynx was better than most time away from her, as lame as that sounded.
Unsure of what to do now, Owen took another sip of the drink. He came to the realization, almost unconsciously, that this coffee place wasn’t exactly the first place he wanted to be. Not because of Jynx; it was just too crowded, impersonal, almost. That was stupid, clearly, but with the mass of people coming in, probably for lunch break or something of the sort, it was getting a bit loud. And, of course, the more people that came in, there was a higher chance of him being recognized somehow, and he really doubted Jynx wanted pictures of the two of them together in a magazine. Even though they weren’t together, it would be hard, if not impossible, to tell that to paparazzi. Looking timidly over to Jynx, he noticed she was about done with her drink, as he was. So, nearly without thinking, he asked hesitantly, “Do you want to stay here, Jay?” Realizing that he had actually said that out loud, he stammered, “I-I mean, if you want to, it’s fine, I was just wondering…” God. He should really just stop talking.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------- nodding to owen's thanks and such, she looked up when he mentioned he didn't have anywhere to be. Eyes lingered on his a moment longer than necessary, before she lowered her gaze, and realized just how much she was stalling. She always did that, another reason probably why the guys always asked her out when she'd been in high school. Granted she had her fair share of boyfriends, five to be exact throughout high school, though she knew two of them couldn't really be counted, since they had been dates, but still. Biting her bottom lip ever so slightly, she stopped herself and noticed how fidgety she was getting. Inhaling slowly and silently, calming herself down, the blonde could feel the slight tension in the air between them. Would she aknoledge it? Hell no. She didn't want her friendship with Owen to become strained, how would this affect their relationship if he ever were to say yes to her by some miracle? Oh God - she couldn't do it, it would be too weird, would it? She'd seen some couples, it came naturally to them - but what about her and Owen, would it be forced naturalness? Wide-eyed slightly, she then sighed softly, and looked up in horror when Owen might have heard that, "Oh, sorry, just realized something."
she corrected her sitting position, making it more comfortable on her spine, before Owen spoke about him and Josie, then asked how she was. Damn. Flickering to his features, she took - comfort in them, half-tempted to brush her hand through his hair - no! She mentally stopped herself, and looked to him silently and quickly replied, after a moment's pause in the air between them, "I'm....all right. Just getting ready for the party, planning on running out of my house if my mom keeps her promise to see me." her features darkened slightly, the entire band probably knew how much she really didn't like her mother, it was one of the reasons she had a small scar on her arm from falling after Amanda Jane had beat her for that year she was forced to live with her. Silently lifting her arm up, Jynx looked the underside of her forearm, and a 4-inch scar from where her elbow started down to the 4-inch mark was a light scar from the stairs and slashing it open on a broken vase. Usually it was hidden well due to the spot as well as her tan, though it always felt like she could see it. Turning her arm, forgetting it, she raised her gaze to look to Owen, "So don't freak out if I suddenly start living full-time at the crew house for a week or so." smiling weakly to reassure him, Jynx perked when he tucked the invitation into his pocket and said he'd come. Excitement coursed through her veins, though she hid it - as best she could anyway, but gave a bright smile and responded after he said it sounded cool, "Awesome." Twirling her straw in her drink as if it were a coffee straw, unbuttoning her yellow light sweater, or what-ever they were called, releasing the front of her white cami fron the confinements, jumped slightly when Owen asked a question. Readjsuting herself, she remembered what he had asked, a light grin appeared on her features and Jynx responded, tucking some hair behind her ear, "Let's go." she grinned lightly, "No, we can leave. I just thought here would be nice so we could meet up then go somewhere else." she nodded once, before standing and stretching her legs, adjusting her jean shorts and looked to the dark-haired guy quietly. jynx tossed her empty cup away, and glanced into her purse, she knew she only needed her car keys and cell phone, pursing her lips in thought, she spoke, "I'm going to throw my purse in my trunk real quick." she let Owen get up from the booth, and they walked out together, immediately falling in sync like they always did. Opening her trunk, she pulled out her keys, tucked them into her front pocket, then her phone into her back pocket on the jean shorts, then tossed her bag in her trunk, then locked it, feeling accomplished for some strange reason. Smiling weakly to herself, Jynx then inquired, "If you want, we could go to the cliffs...?" she knew he'd most likely say yes, but she left the option open in case he wanted to go somewhere else; Jynx wouldn't mind of course, she always enjoyed her time with him when-ever she got it. Eyes flickered around the town, noticing quite a few stores had sales going on, tourist season. Spotting the cruise ship that brought the tourists, Jynx cringed slightly, she hoped her mother and her step-father, Patrick the Politician as she called him with Daniel weren't on it.[/blockquote] WORDCOUNT; 812 <-- fail...?

WELL, I'LL SWALLOW MY PRIDE IF YOU PROMISE TO STAY FOR THE YEARS, AND WATCH ME SPIN CIRCLES AS I DISSAPEAR. HEARTS, THEY DON'T LIE, THEY QUIVER Blinking, a bit confused from Jynx’s remark – he hadn’t heard her sigh, somewhat lost in his thoughts instead – Owen nodded slightly, hoping to appear less clueless than he currently was. Damnit, when had it started to get so weird between them? Even if he was just imagining the whole thing, he was almost sure that just last year they had had so many fewer awkward moments like this. So what was causing it? He sighed silently, realizing it was probably his fault. Still, just one-sided feelings couldn’t create tension like this…could they? Well, they probably could – if Jynx had somehow found out… But she couldn’t have. He hadn’t told anyone, not Josie, Chris, or anyone else. And unless he was just unknowingly obvious, she shouldn’t have been able to find out about his pathetic little crush. Mentally cursing himself, he sighed again. Damnit. She couldn’t know, didn’t. If she knew, why was she still being so nice to him? Of course, she was a nice person, but – God. Stopping himself before he got a bit carried away, he shook his head. That still didn’t explain the tension, but it was all his imagination anyway, he supposed.
Owen nodded sympathetically at Jynx’s mention of her mother, a slight pang of regret striking him. Shit, this was confusing. Honestly, all he really wanted to do at the moment was apologize, comfort her somehow, but it clearly wasn’t the time or place for that. Not to mention it would be extremely awkward, he knew. Still, it was somewhat hard for him to just let that go, since he could obviously understand family issues. Not Jynx’s exactly – he knew she didn’t like her mother, but he wasn’t completely sure why, though he had heard a few of her reasons – but the drummer had a feeling they were a bit more similar than either really knew. He would have to tell her about his father, the whole alcoholic thing, someday. It would be weird, clearly, especially since he hadn’t told anyone in the band about it before, or anyone else, for that matter, but he really did trust Jynx more than anyone else. Was that so weird? She was his best friend, after all. To her next comment, he nodded, remarking quietly, “I understand. And it’s not like it bothers me, Jay.” Refraining from asking if she was going to be okay, he sighed silently. God. There were so many things friends couldn’t say to each other - at least, friends like the two of them were. That or he was just a coward, which was probably true enough itself.
Meeting her smile as she stood up, he followed suit and tossed his cup away after Jynx did. “Cool, then.” Owen nodded as she said she would leave her purse in her car and fell in line beside her while walking outside. They always seemed to be like this, he thought with a slight grin, but immediately returning to his former serious state when he realized that this was why he couldn’t ask her out. If he did, he wasn’t sure they would ever really be able to go back to being friends like this. That would be…miserable, he had to admit. Was it even really worth the risk if he ended up screwing up their friendship some time down the line? He didn’t really think so. Pushing this thought out of his mind for the moment, he grinned at her suggestion of the cliffs, “Yeah, that sounds great.” That wasn’t to say he would ever turn down being with Jynx, but the cliffs were really one of his favorite places around the island, and her suggesting it pointed out that she probably knew that. And, truthfully, he would rather be up there with Jynx than being there alone. Not to mention it was better than sitting in a crowded coffee place.
Always having been bad at starting conversations, Owen was more than slightly glad he was with Jynx instead of any other person as they started walking over to the cliffs together. The two of them seemed to…understand each other, maybe, so silences between them weren’t that awkward most of the time – better than forced conversation. He didn’t really know anyone else that was like that, and, he mused, it was probably why they had such a good friendship. Still, at times like this – the ever-present tension following them like a cloud – he felt like he should say something. Not having a clue what that might be, though, he sighed. Blue eyes glancing over to Jynx, though not knowing why, he looked back down, mentally kicking himself. They were nearly to the part of the “cliffs” where you actually needed to hike a bit, and he observed lightly with a smirk, eyes downcast, “Better circumstances than last time, I would have to say.” He was referring to the time last week when they had essentially been chased out of the skate park by a lot of fans with cell phones, and the whole thing was a bit funny thinking back on it, though it hadn’t seemed like it in the least at the time. Especially not when he thought someone had gotten a picture of them. Before starting the walk up to the actual cliffs, Owen quickly glanced to Jynx, rather curious as to what was causing her to act so - God, he didn’t know -serious, maybe, today.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------- seeing the uneasiness in Owen, the blonde felt worry creep over her like a thick down blanket she drew up around her during the wintertime, after closing up the large doors to the house if she wasn't in the crew one for Kill the Lights. Gentle dark eyes watched him carefully, as if trying to figure out what was going on with him. She'd noticed the difference in him lately - was there something he wasn't telling her? Doubting it, though there was a slight nagging thought that there wasn't. Keeping this to herself, Jynx settled on looking up as he responded on it not bothering him. She smiled innocently, and added, playing, "Easier for me to...er...pull pranks." she winked and corrected herself, "I mean, see everyone." tossing Owen a playful smile, the blonde adjusted her sweater, before then taking it off and slinging it over her shoulder, glad she'd worn a cami today. glad he'd accepted her offer of the cliffs, Jynx was thrilled when they started heading that way on food - thankful she was wearing at least comfortable shoes today. Hazel-brown eyes looked towards her best friend silently as their feet matched up in stride on the sidewalk towards the cliffs. Thankfully today was a weekday, therefore it wasn't too busy outside, though she had a feeling the beach would be packed. All of the stores in the town, or city were open, and she could hear the far off rumble of a cruise ship getting ready to dock, bringing tourists here for the season, she just wondered if her mom would be on that. Flinching at this thought, she tossed her hair behind her shoulders, her bangs over her left eye still, thinking if her mother came, she hadn't seen her in years, at least 4, did she have kids? She didn't know, she'd already had herself and Danny, and some other kid older than Jynx she heard of, but didn't know anything else about him, or her. Though with Patrick - any? She certainly hoped she didn't have step-siblings when they came - if she did, she'd probably either freak and leave her house, or freak and call the cops on them. Or what she hoped she wouldn't do - just adjust and suck it up. glancing to Owen silently, as they headed up there in silence - one she really didn't mind. When he mentioned about it being better circumstances than last time, she nodded solemnly and replied, tying her hair back into a low, loose ponytail, letting some of the shorter layers flow freely about her shoulders. "Agreed, no cell phones, just the cliffs." she mentally thanked God she didn't slip up and say 'us' at the end of that. Carefully picking her way along the rocks and such on the tiny path they always took up there, both she and Owen were not the... best coordinated people out there. She tripped over random things, and he tended to trip over those, or more things that weren't there. Either way, they both seemed to take solace in the fact they weren't alone. Even if Owen didn't, Jynx sure did. Smiling lightly as they approached the end of the path and up onto the cliffs, she inhaled slowly and sighed, before looking to Owen, one hand in her jean shorts pocket, as she set down her yellow sweater on a rock to keep it there, "It never fails to be beautiful, does it..." she turned to him quietly, pondering deeply, eyes lifting to meet his, before she realized just how close they actually were to each other. A ripple flowed through Jynx, and she smothered all her hope before it sprouted. turning to face the edge, Jynx took off her shoes, enjoying the soft grass beneath her feet, and approached the edge, peering over only for a moment. God - she hated that feeling she'd fall to her death, but she enjoyed the adrenaline once in awhile. Smiling softly to herself, she then looked Owen's way, and headed back to his side, there was a soft breeze up here, but nothing like it had been the last time as she sat down on the partially sun-bathed rock, and gestured for Owen to sit with her, sharing her sweater, laid out for them. It wouldn't get too dirty she presumed, worst case was she washed it again or just brushed the twigs and such off. Drawing up her legs, putting her shoes close to the rock, instinctively, when some of Owen's hair fell across his face, she reached up and brushed it aside gently, able to see both of his gorgeous blue eyes now, a deep blush colored her cheeks, and she quickly looked out to the ocean, but glanced his way, wondering if he'd catch her glance...or not.[/blockquote] WORDCOUNT; i don't wanna know. :3

WELL, I'LL SWALLOW MY PRIDE IF YOU PROMISE TO STAY FOR THE YEARS, AND WATCH ME SPIN CIRCLES AS I DISSAPEAR. HEARTS, THEY DON'T LIE, THEY QUIVER Sticking his tongue out playfully at Jynx’s mention of pranking the band, Owen snickered. “I dare you to try.” Pausing, as if in thought, he shook his head, grinning, “On second, thought, forget I said that. Josie and Chris will blame me for it.” It was true, they probably would. He had obviously earned the reputation among the band as the person who would do things like that, and he doubted they would believe Jynx would prank them. He wasn’t ruling it out, though, he thought with a slight grin. She could be mischievous enough when she wanted to, and he had witnessed a few of such times. That wasn’t a bad thing, however. Definitely not. Then again, he couldn’t think of…anything, honestly, bad about Jynx at the moment. Pushing that out of his mind, he shook his head, hoping desperately for anything else to think about.
Thankfully the silence between them on the way up to the cliffs was less tense, at least a little bit. Owen glanced around, realizing it had to be at least noon by now. Sighing silently, his eyes wandered to Jynx, slightly curious as to what she was thinking. It was inevitable they wouldn’t be able to stay up here for more than a few hours and he was now cursing himself for being late to meet up with her. That would have only given them a few more minutes together, he knew, but…still. Acknowledging her reply, he nodded, hesitantly looking over to meet her eyes. No, he didn’t think it was just his imagination anymore; there was something different about Jynx today. She was quieter, but they were always quiet, especially on the cliffs. So, if that wasn’t it, what was? Damnit, had he said something to freak her out or what? It had to be his fault; there wasn’t any other reason, was there? He sighed quietly, eyes wandering to the end of the path lying ahead of them, mentally telling himself to shut up and enjoy the time he got to spend with her. Following as she placed her sweater onto a rock, he smiled lightly at her remark and shook his head, murmuring, “I don’t think it could.” Eyes flew to Jynx, who was surprisingly close, just a moment before she looked up. This time their eyes locked for what felt like more time than ever before until Owen timidly looked away, what felt like a jolt of electricity flowing through him.
Coward, you’re such a damn coward, Owen yelled mentally at himself when Jynx moved away and slid off her shoes, walking to the edge of the cliffs. He was barely able to take a step forward before she turned again, him immediately stepping back. Watching her as she walked back to the rock, he waited until she sat and motioned beside her, sitting down compliantly, as he nearly always did when the two came here. He let out a soft sigh, and almost immediately a breeze blew through the cliffs, causing a few strands hair to fall into his face. Planning on ignoring it for the moment, his eyes widened when he felt what were obviously Jynx’s fingers brush softly against his forehead, allowing him to see again, in something even he couldn’t effortlessly push aside as a simple friendly gesture. But…then, what had it been? He was asking himself this, curiosity probably spelled out on his face, as he peered over to his best friend. His eyes still somewhat wide with shock when they met hers, his face immediately flushed. Even so, his light gaze lingered on her face for another moment or so until he looked back out to the cliffs, becoming self-conscious again.
He couldn’t not think of the time, not too long ago, actually, when almost the same thing had happened, in the same place and all. Of course, that time had been a good deal more awkward, and it had been much easier to brush off as something a friend - a good friend - would do. This time, though, there had been something else; he couldn’t even deny it. Still, he was stomping out the new-found hope that had surged up, convincing himself that it had been nothing - all his imagination. It was safer that way, he mused a bit desolately: everything simply being a figment of his mind. No, it didn’t leave any hope, but stubbornly, he assumed he couldn’t get hurt that way. That was a blatant lie, something that if it had come from anyone else he would have laughed at. No, he could get hurt even without allowing himself to hope. He sighed quietly, glancing over to Jynx and almost allowing himself to wish that she would explain, reject him or not, just to get it over with. Any other more confidant person would have asked already, and Owen, while he could feign confidence a good deal of the time, was clearly not one of those people. Dammit, if he were confident, he wouldn’t be so confused right now. That much he knew.
