A M B I T I O U S , P R O U D & I N D E P E N D E N T
The most prominent side to Stephanie's personality is the side of her she wants people to see. She doesn't need anyone's validation to feel secure about herself, and not only does she know she is beautiful, she flaunts it. Without a doubt, she is the kind of woman who hums to her own tune and does whatever she wants to - and when she does want something, there is nothing in the world that can stop her from achieving it, even if there is no one else around to support her. On the down side, the very idea of getting too attached terrifies her, as it means she would have to place her trust in someone else, and possibly even come to depend on them in one way or another, thus giving up her independence.
M A N I P U L A T I V E , C L E V E R & C H A R I S M A T I C
In Stephanie's world, the most important person is undoubtedly Stephanie. That doesn't mean she always acts like it, however. Manipulative and charismatic, she is good at telling people exactly what they want to hear without making it seem like a lie, and is an expert at making friends. She also loves a good discussion and a chance to show off her intellect, though she is perhaps too stubborn at times and absolutely hates admitting that she is wrong. Neither is she very good at actually maintaining her friendships over time, and she has a mean sarcastic streak which has a tendency to reveal itself every so often.
S W E E T , I N S E C U R E & C A U T I O U S
Underneath the mask she shows to the world, however, exists a sweet, insecure young girl. This is a side of her most people don't get to see, as it is one she has worked on hiding. This is the side of Stephanie who secretly loves watching Disney films and eating ice cream late at night, and who wants nothing more than a fairytale ending. The feelings Stephanie hide are also the reason she acts tough, however, as she is actually afraid of getting too close to someone because she is scared of being hurt. She pretends not to care about anyone because it makes it easier to let go, or even convince herself that things didn't really matter in the first place.

- - - - overall history,
Auguste Chatier was a well-renowned heart surgeon in Paris when he met Blanche Bouvier, an aspiring fashion model almost twelve years younger than him. Whether the two fell in love or if she was simply attracted by his money is anyone's guess, but after a year, the two were married. Eleven months later, Blanche gave birth to Stephanie, and all was well. At least that was the way it seemed to the outside world. Wrapped up in the fame that came with her modeling career, Blanche was not 100% certain her husband was actually Stephanie's father, although she would not admit it to her husband.
As the years went by, Stephanie's resemblance to one of Blanche's closest friends, David Hanson, became impossible to ignore. When confronted about it, Blanche finally confessed that she had been having an affair with the photographer, which sent Auguste into a violent rage. Blanche threatened to let the world know that he had abused her, which resulted in him threatening to kill her. Stephanie witnessed the fight, and being only seven years old, it affected her deeply. She became introverted and spent less time with her friends, preferring to sit in the solitude of her room because she was afraid her mother would die.
When Stephanie was fourteen, Auguste's anger stopped being reserved only for Blanche. One night, after he had been drinking with some colleagues, he was blinded by his lingering hatred for David Hanson and beat the young girl until she was practically begging for him to stop. Although he was filled with guilt later, she refused to forgive him, which he unfortunately remembered the next time he went out drinking. After a while, Stephanie was caught up in a world of pain and fear, but since Blanche was rarely at home because of her job and a worsening drug addiction, no one was around to notice. Because she still held some love for the man she had always thought of as her father, Stephanie would always make up excuses for her bruises and scars.
On her sixteenth birthday, Stephanie had finally had enough. For the first time in her life, she got up and left in the middle of the night, only taking some clothes and money with her. She got on a train and never looked back, only answering calls from her mother every once in a while. Eventually, however, even that communication ceased, as Stephanie honestly just wanted to cut all ties with her past. Settling down as a clothing store assistant once she had left France for good, she was quite happy for a while, living off the small amount of money she made and the rather substantial amount on her bank account.
She had been quite determined to never fall in love, but of course, that had to change. When she met Phineas, she had the ridiculous idea that she could actually be happy, and the day he proposed to her was the happiest day of her life. When she woke up in the middle of the night and saw him sleeping next to her, however, all the memories from her childhood came back to her, and she was terrified that her own marriage would end up like her mother's. Deciding that it would be best for both of them, she packed her things and left, leaving only a note and the ring he had given her behind.
Although she was plagued with guilt and what ifs for a while, she managed to move on by reminding herself that her actions had been the best for both of them. Except for a few more memories, nothing about Stephanie has really changed since them, although she is perhaps even more wary of serious relationships.

If there was one thing Emma Frost had never intended to do, it was fall in love. Love, as she had so often reminded herself, was a weakness, something that made a person vulnerable. She had witnessed people falling in love too many times to count, and each time had she been able to sense the part of their awareness filled with concern or distracting thoughts regarding the object of their affections. There was no easier time to hurt someone. Therefore, she had closed herself off to those feelings, and her romantic endeavors had been frequent, but purely physical in nature.
At Xavier Institute, matters had changed. At first, Scott Summers had been a bit of fun, the way he had snuck around behind his wife’s back to spend some time with the gorgeous blonde. Emma had enjoyed the attention, as well as the knowledge that she could make a man betray even a woman like Jean Grey. Unfortunately, their relationship had been discovered, and Scott had felt terribly guilty. Jean’s death had only complicated things further, and the fact that Scott still loved his deceased wife hung over them like a curtain, distancing him from her.
Guilt. Whenever she touched his inner thoughts, intentionally or not, there was guilt to be found. Even as she lay beside him in the bed they shared at the Institute and he held her in his arms, she could feel the guilt, albeit buried beneath other thoughts and emotions. Oh, how she wished she could stop herself from probing into his mind, but every time, she felt a rush of hope that he might have left that guilt behind. Each and every time, her hope was crushed as she felt his memories of the first woman he had loved fill him with that all-consuming, undeniable guilt. Jean Grey was dead, dead and buried – why couldn’t he let her go?
“Your eyes are red.”
She had been lost in her own thoughts and had not heard – or felt – the presence of her lover. Looking up at him, she ran her pale, long fingers through her long hair, smiling a smile that was entirely forced. “Look who’s talking,” she replied, tilting her head upwards ever so slightly as her hand brushed his cheek. It felt oddly right, being so near to the brown-haired man who always had to cover his eyes. He was beautiful – and, she noted sourly, had an odd ability to attract women with powerful telepathic abilities. Scott had known her before he had met her because he loved Jean, even though Emma and Jean were polar opposites. Their powers, however, were similar.
Maybe that was the reason. Perhaps he looked for comfort in the former White Queen now because of the similarities she and Jean had. All along, she had been disrupting a perfect relationship, and she had been fully aware of it. Even now, even as Scott put his arms around her and kissed her, she felt the ominous ghost hovering over him, forbidding either one of them to be happy. Of all the men in the world, it had to be Scott Summers. Damn him. Damn Jean Grey. If only that woman had stayed alive, this dilemma would be nonexistent. Then again, Emma would still be hopelessly in love with a man whose heart would always be shared with another.
The decision struck her impulsively, without any kind of thought – she would leave. If she was gone, Scott could truly mourn for his wife, not be concerned with shielding a woman who had never wanted to be shielded or protected. That was not the nature of Emma Grace Frost, a woman who had decided to be strong and independent and make her own way in this world. It was not fair to either one of them to go on with this, pretending neither one was haunted by Jean. It was not fair to Scott that she expected him to devote his heart to a woman who had seduced him, knowing full well that he adored his wife. It was not fair to not give him more time.
I am a diamond. I am, by definition, my own best friend.
